Dr. Arlene Hargrove Woods attended the University of Georgia where she studied flute with Dr. Ron Waln and conducting with Dr. Albert Legotti where she earned her BS degree in Music Education. She also holds a Master of Music Education from Georgia State University, an EdS degree from the University of Georgia, and an EdD in Curriculum at the University of Phoenix where her dissertation focused on intonation in instrumental ensembles. Arlene conducted study tours in Polynesian and Aboriginal Australian music. She attended the World Conference of the International Society For Music Education in Canberra, Australia, and the Pacific Arts Festival in Queensland, Australia. Arlene taught elementary, middle school, and high school band in Decatur City Schools before returning home to the Newton and Rockdale County area where She taught band at Sharp Middle School, and Eastside High School. After retiring from the public school system, Arlene served as band director at Young Americans Christian School and Peachtree Academy. She continues to serve as a consultant to band directors in the East-Metro area. Arlene is currently the conductor of the Covington Conyers Community Orchestra which she also founded.
Arlene is a member of Newton Retired Educators, Georgia Retired Educators, Georgia Music Educators Assoc., Music Educators National Conference, National Band Association, Women Band Directors International Assoc., Pi Kappa Lambda honorary association for excellence in music research, and Sigma Alpha Iota honorary fraternity for music educators.
